CytoSport Muscle Milk vs. BSN Syntha-6 - Supplements Comparison
CytoSport Muscle Milk and BSN Syntha-6 are two very popular, balanced Meal Replacement Powders used for various purposes like breakfasts, daily meals and snack, for increasing daily calorie intake, for increasing protein intake, for diets etc.
Main Protein Sources
Main protein sources in CytoSport Muscle Milk are Calcium Sodium Caseinate, Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Hydrolysate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Lactoferrin, L-Glutamine, Taurine.
Main protein sources in BSN Syntha-6 are Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, Calcium Caseinate, Micellar Casein, Milk Protein Isolate, Egg Albumin and Glutamine Peptides.
Obviously, CytoSport Muscle Milk has somewhat slower protein sources (digestion lasts longer), but speed of digestion also depends on other content - fats, carbs and fibers.
Flavors and Packaging
Both protein powders come in numerous flavors including various chocolate flavors, fruit flavors, cookies and cream etc. There are enough flavors to avoid boredom, even if one is consuming only one MRP product.
CytoSport Muscle Milk comes in two packages: 2.47 lbs and 4.94 lbs, while BSN Syntha-6 comes in 2.9 lbs, 5 lbs and 10 bs. Also, there is a 5 servings bag - highly recommended for people who want to give various flavors of Syntha-6 a try.
Larger packages are cheaper per gram of powder and are more cost effective.
Following table compares Cookies and Cream flavors of both MRPs - amounts are given per 100g of powder:
|Nutrient||CytoSport Muscle Milk||BSN Syntha-6|
|Calories||~ 430 kcal||~ 425 kcal|
|Cholesterol||~ 30mg||~ 130mg|
Macronutrient content and total calories are very similar, with Muscle Milk having little bit more fats, and Syntha-6 having more carbs and fibers, but total calorie difference is under 5 kcal - that is around 1% difference. These values also differ due to variations in used raw materials and can be easily considered - as equal.
Cholesterol - BSN Syntha-6 has 100mg more cholesterol per 100g of powder than CytoSport Muscle Milk. If you don't have issues with cholesterol and fats in general, extra cholesterol in Syntha-6 will make no difference. However, if you do have issues with LDL cholesterol (bad one), and you like Syntha-6, increase daily intake of healthy fats, but keep total fats and cholesterol intake in check.
Vitamins and minerals - Syntha-6 has very low amount of vitamins and minerals (almost negligible), while Muscle Milk contains around 50% of RDA of most common vitamins and minerals per 100g of powder. Although this is big difference, main source of vitamins and minerals in balanced diet should come from real food like green and leafy vegetables, fresh salads, lean protein sources, fruits, nuts etc.
Taste and Mixability
Both supplements mixes well in shakers with water and milk with no lumps or anything similar. Some foam is present after shaking, but it settles down after few seconds.
Taste is excellent - both supplements are one of the tastiest products on the market. Personally, I prefer chocolate flavors, but both Cookies and Cream flavors are simply excellent - like liquid candies. Fruity flavors are OK, too, but I consume them only when I get sample packs or similar - Fruity and Vanilla flavors are excellent for smoothies with fruits.
Price - price is very similar, so be sure to find coupons, promo codes, sales and similar. Again, larger packages are cheaper per gram of powder.
Long Story Short - both supplements are excellent balanced Meal Replacement Powders, with Syntha-6 being digested slightly faster. Both MRPs can be used for breakfasts and daily snacks and meals, but they are somewhat too fast for bedtime shakes, especially Syntha-6. If you want to used them for bedtime shakes, add some low fat or cottage cheese with peanut butter to both supplements and make a delicious, slow digesting smoothie.
Personally - excellent supplements, with very little difference between them. Use them both - after Muscle Milk, take Syntha-6 and vice versa.
