Mixed Fish Stew Recipe

Fish stew recipes are one of my favorite fish recipes. It is very tasty, can be made relatively quickly and depending on side dish, can be even low calorie meal. But, most often, it is one of my cheat meals :o)

This fish stew recipe is made using sea bass, gilthead bream, common sea bream and Norway lobster.

Before you start to cook, chop up two larger onions, several garlic cloves, two medium carrots and prepare one to two laurel leaves.

Preheat some olive oil in the pot and add onions and garlic. Since we are using olive oil, keep the heat relatively low. Mix everything from time to time and cook it some 10 minutes or so ...

Add carrots, mix everything and cook it while mixing few minutes. Then add little bit of water, mix everything and cook it few more minutes.

Now add rest of the spices - salt, pepper, laurel, parsley, celery ... It all depends on your personal preferences - I suggest that you experiment little bit from time to time :)

Peel off large tomato and add it to the mix. Or use already prepared crushed tomatoes - some 0.1l will do fine.

Mix everything.

Add fish and lobsters.

Then add some good wine - half a litter of good quality wine will be enough for approximately 3kg of fish.

Shake the pot little bit, so that fish and rest of the content settle down. Never stir fish stew recipe with spoon or anything like that.

Add some water, so that all of the fish is under the surface.

Increase the heat until stew starts to boil, then decrease the heat - cook it for about 20-25 minutes.

While fish stew cooks, it is time to make a side dish. There are plenty of possible side dishes for this meal, but ordinary potatoes are one of my favorites.

Peel of several potatoes, put them into the pot filled with water, add some salt and cook them 20-25 minutes (depending on the size of potatoes).

Serve them warm with fish stew.

Fish stew is done - try to have your side dish finished at the same time as your fish stew and serve them both warm.

Note: I will never be able to decorate and serve meals as restaurants do, but who cares? :)

Seriously, if you are very careful about side dish (in this recipe - boiled potatoes) and bread, this is low calorie meal, rich in protein with some healthy fats and relatively complex carbs (onions, carrots, whole wheat bread etc).
